I About Me
My name is Lexi Callander and I am from Knox, Pennsylvania. I went to Keystone Elementary and Keystone Junior-Senior High School. I graduated high school with the class of 2016. Growing up in a small town influenced my decision on which college I chose to attend. I love the close community and ability to get to know others so well which was also the case at Thiel College. I graduated with an Early Childhood (PreK-4) and Special Education Degree (PreK-8) from Thiel College in May of 2020. I chose to pursue this degree because I want to have a positive impact on student's lives and teach them to love learning!
While being at Thiel, I was involved in the Kappa Delta Pi Education Honor Society, Chi Alpha Sigma Athletic Honor Society, Alpha Chi Academic Honor Society, the Thiel College Women's Volleyball team, and the Thiel College Women's Lacrosse team. While at Thiel, I was chosen as the recipient for the SFC Ryan A. Gloyer Memorial Merit Scholarship which is given to a senior education student who possesses passion for putting student needs above their own, the ability to go above and beyond what is required of them in the education program, and demonstrates continuous improvement within the field of education. I served through the AmeriCorps for two terms equaling 900 hours of service as well as the United Way while working towards my degree. I was an education department student worker for two semesters at Thiel College which allowed me to become more familiar with resources available to me as a teacher. At the end of my career at Thiel College, I graduated with a 3.93 overall GPA and a 4.0 major GPA.
I am currently a first grade teacher at Port Allegany Elementary School in Port Allegany, PA. I have one year of experience as a regular education teacher and have worked with IEPs and meeting student needs within my classroom daily. I have a class size of 15 students and work in a title 1 school. Because of this, I have not only focused on my students' academic success, but also on their social and emotional growth. I love going to work every day and growing with my students!

"You've made this day special just by being you. There's no one in the world quite like you and I like you just the way you are." - Fred Rogers |
Letting a child know that they are important and cared about allows them to reach their full potential. Knowing someone believes in you makes it easier to believe in yourself. Every child is unique and special in their own way! As educators, getting to know our students opens up their perspective on adults not only contributing to their success within academics, but their emotional and behavioral needs as well. Being comfortable when learning is much easier when you know you are in an environment where you can be yourself. |
