Current Classroom Management Strategies in First Grade
Golden Tickets: I currently use golden tickets to reinforce positive behavior in my classroom. I have small golden slips of paper that I hand to students when they are following our classroom rules, participating, and working their hardest. Students store their golden tickets in a pouch located in the room. On Fridays, students get to use these golden tickets to buy prizes from the prize store.
Brownie Points: I use brownie points as my whole class classroom management strategy. There is a brownie pan magnetized to my whiteboard with 20 laminated brownies stuck to it. We start with five brownies off every day. Whenever every student in our class is following the rules at the same time, they earn a brownie point. The whole class can earn these points in our classroom, in the special teacher's rooms, and in the hallway. Students can also lose these points if there is too much noise or too many students off task. If students get all 5 brownies on the tray by the end of the day, they pull a stick in the game kerplunk. Once all of the marbles fall in kerplunk, we have a whole class party!
Our Classroom Tree: I created a classroom tree with velcro hearts that is displayed in my classroom. My students know that in the classroom they should be showing respect, patience, and kindness. When I catch a student going out of their way to help someone else or being patient and respectful, I tell them to pick a heart off of our tree and go put it in their bucket filler bucket. Each student in my classroom has a bucket filler bucket. I add these hearts up once students are gone and turn them into dojo points. Students earn different rewards, parties, and prizes when they have enough dojo points. I have found that this strategy really encourages the development of a community mindset within the classroom.

Classroom Management
I want to act as a guide to students and allow them to discover what and how they love to learn through constructivism. By doing this, we can grow together to create a positive learning environment that accepts all backgrounds and learning styles. Each student learns in different ways and my goal is to meet those needs through differentiation, classroom tools and strategies, and taking the time to get to know each student. Creating a community of learners in my classroom will allow students to become effective members of society and their communities as they grow older.
